Director & Principal Tango Teacher William (Bill) Jarman
William (Bill) Jarman is the founder and creative force behind Tango Bajo.
Bill is a seasoned dancer, choreographer and tertiary qualified dance teacher, who brings a unique combination of creative vision and technical skills honed over decades of working and performing in ballet, contemporary dance, musical theatre, tango and dance in education.
With over twenty-five years’ experience teaching social Argentine Tango to groups and individuals, one of the things that makes Bill stand out is his passion and unique approach to teaching. He doesn’t just teach you patterns. Bill guides you to harness your intuitive abilities, understand your own body, and connect with the music, creating an experience only tango can offer, with whomever you are dancing.
Bill commenced tertiary dance education at the NZ School of Dance, graduating into the Royal NZ Ballet Company. He then fulfilled his dream of dancing around the world, with European companies, before returning to his home country and focusing on performance tango. He moved to Melbourne for post-graduate study in choreography and founded Tango Bajo, one of Melbourne’s first tango schools, in 1999.
